No Justice

We have survived you before.
There will always be
those hidden places
where we can be ourselves.
Where our history is passed down
to the next generation.

You can’t kill us all
and no regime lasts forever.
In time, you will fall
and we will once again
walk in the sun.
And we will remember.

Remember those
who died at your hands.
Remember those
who fought beside us.
Remember those
who stood by and did nothing.

I doubt you will ever
see the inside of a jail
or that any court
will grant us damages
for the lives
that you have taken.

But the mothers and fathers,
brothers and sisters,
the friends of all those
whose blood is on your hands,
will spit in your face
as they pass you in the street.

And they will be right to do so.
