It Isn't Really About Us

It isn’t really about Us.
Women not feminine enough,
will be accused
of being Trans.
They leave no middle ground.
Trad or Trans — Life or Death.

It isn’t really about Us.
Their laws are no more
than an excuse for violence
against those who challenge
their self-serving notion
of “the natural order”.

It isn’t really about Us.
Or protecting Women.
Or fairness in sports.
Or saving trans-kids.
Or common decency.
Or even “the will of God.”

It isn’t really about Us.
It is the Magician's trick
of making grand gestures
with one hand, to hide
what the other is doing.
Intimidation cast as protection.

It isn’t really about Us.
Their rule is dependent
on the false notion
that biology is definitive,
separates greater from lesser,
master from slave.

It isn't really about Us.
It is them shoring up
the walls of patriarchy.
Women the slaves,
their bones for bricks,
their blood for mortar.

It isn’t really about Us.
It’s about fear.
About their desperate need
to bring Women to heel,
or lose all sense
of who they are.
